Overview of the export of transport services for the 1st half of 2021
Export of transport services is a value indicator of services rendered, work performed by residents under contracts concluded with non-residents related to transport services for freight and passenger traffic[1].
The export of transport services in Uzbekistan is represented by six main types: transportation by rail, road, air, pipeline transport, as well as postal services and courier services, other related and auxiliary transport services.
In the 1st half of 2021, the export of transport services in the total volume of exports of services rendered took the leading place with a share of 71.3% and amounted to 808,008.7 thousand USD.
During this period, the volume of export of transport services increased by 1.2 times (by 142,684.3 thousand USD) compared to the corresponding period of 2020. The increase was due to pipeline - by 57 587.4 thousand USD, air - 76 155.7 thousand USD and railway transport - 9 157.5 thousand USD.
In the overall structure of the export of transport services, the largest share after pipeline transport (30.4%) is accounted for by rail (24%) and air transport (14.1%).
The growth in the export of transport services is achieved mainly due to the provision of freight transportation services by rail and passenger transportation by air.
Thus, the volume of exports of freight rail services in the 1st half of 2021 increased by 9,209.8 thousand USD (103.5%) compared to 2020 and amounted to 268 793.5 thousand USD. This increase is due to the fact that the spread of COVID-19 did not so much affect the activity of cargo transportation by rail, and in order to prevent a slowdown in the processes of foreign trade transportation, intensified measures were taken to reorient part of the volume of international road transport to rail[2].
In air transport, there is an increase in passenger traffic by 12,002 thousand USD (2.1 times) and amounted to 22 575.5 thousand USD due to the resumption of some international flights.
In the export of transport services, an important role is assigned to transit, which provides significant foreign exchange earnings to the country and contributes to the development of external integration relations.
The increase in the volume of export of freight railroad transportation was caused by the sharp demand of cargo owners for interstate transportation by rail (export and transit) during the pandemic along all directions of transport corridors and made up the main profit from transport services.
According to the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan, for the 1st half of 2021, the volume of transit traffic in physical terms amounted to 4,224.5 thousand tons(100.4%), which is 20.2 thousand tons more than the 1st half of 2020 of the year.
According to Uzbekiston Temir Yullari JSC for the 1st half of 2021, the countries of departure for transit traffic through the Republic of Uzbekistan were Tajikistan (92.8% by the 1st half of 2020), Afghanistan (61.3%), Kazakhstan (299.3%) and Kyrgyzstan (91.2%) with the main nomenclature of goods: oil products, grain, flour products, coke and ore, ferrous metals, etc.
